So guess what I got a job in Denver.
That’s right. Almost 6 years and as many job titles later, I’m leaving The Times-Union and Jacksonville.
I started as the community guy for MyClaySun.com (RIP) and will leave as the Assistant Managing Editor of Digital for the Times-Union. That makes me very happy, and though I could have done without some of our industry’s undulations, I wouldn’t have traded it for anything.
I was a part of many great things at Jacksonville.com and worked with many great people. I won’t list anyone here for fear of excluding someone, but it’s safe to say I couldn’t have done it without Kevin’s mom.
Outside of work was just as awesome. I helped start 20 Dollar Soda (also RIP) with Bloo, Ching and El Train. Perhaps too much of our business plan involved taking photos of ourselves, but hey, we’re awesome and that shit sells.
Urban Jacksonville Weekly, a podcast with a two-year run about Jacksonville’s urban issues and events, might have been the most fun ever had in front of a microphone.
Dinners at Chew, mornings at the beach, picnics along the St. Johns. I could go on
I met lots of amazing people and fooled them into thinking I am cool. That means you, Biggie, Marchy, Diablo. And you, Alan. Oh, and everyone at Bold Bean. I wish I could move all of you to Denver with me.
Awesomer still, living in Jacksonville kept me close enough to old friends to become a weekend getaway for many. The epic dinners Forrest and I prepared for our womenfolk were truly legendary. And we didn’t have to do the dishes! Having 12 people live in our two-bedroom Avondale home for four days while we shot a movie was absurd. Exhausting, exhilarating, and the best time I think I’ve ever had in 48 hours. The herb and vegetable garden Diana and I grew in the year-round climate afforded by Florida. We’re no green thumbs, but my oregano plant is now four years old and a chocolate bell pepper plant I’ve had for two years refuses to stop yielding delicious veggies. Just sayin.
At the risk of getting too sentimental and boring my 0 readers, the last six years with Diana, Jax and my friends have been incredible – and here’s to the rest.
